The Weight of Evidence

Examine in these photographs I offer you, shuffle

through them and see, in the thin & brittle evidence

they offer, as it may be; with this building or with

this bridge, the pure assertions of structure

and complexity interlaced in web-works of steel

or the brittle glass of this façade, the muscled

weight of manufacture is visible as evidence

or as a trace, whereso the hands that built it,

their strength, is visible here in the photograph

but the photograph itself is a delicate, faded,

sepia-tinted thing, y’see? The work itself

is the weight of steel and glass, but the bridge

or building is like the photograph, an artifact,

and delicate of its making.
